Do not compare materials in isolation
Both routes can protect steel when the tested system, design and installation suit the actual project. The meaningful comparison includes exposure, steel schedule, finish, congestion, durability, maintenance and the accepted approval route.
Where intumescent systems can fit
Intumescent coatings can provide a lighter, lower-profile finish on complex or visible steel. They demand disciplined substrate preparation, primer compatibility, environmental control and dry-film-thickness management.
Where cementitious systems can fit
Cementitious systems can be efficient across large industrial steel areas and may tolerate different aesthetic expectations. Density, thickness, reinforcement, water exposure, damage protection and repair access still require control.
Codes, approvals, credentials, system evidence and authority requirements change. Confirm the current legal entity, scope, project specification and acceptance route before procurement or installation.
